One standard of justice

Nobody is above the law.

Government earns trust when laws are enforced fairly, conflicts are acknowledged, constitutional freedoms are protected, and powerful institutions face the same scrutiny as everyone else.

The constitutional standard

“Faithfully
and impartially.”
Rhode Island Constitution, Article III, § 3 →

The ballot may name a party. Justice must not take sides.

Rhode Island’s Constitution requires every general officer to promise to discharge the duties of office faithfully and impartially. A party affiliation may identify a candidate, but it must never control the Attorney General.

One standardApply the same law and the same evidentiary standard to political allies and opponents.
Independent judgmentAcknowledge conflicts and seek truly independent review when the office cannot act impartially.
Rhode Island firstUse the office to serve Rhode Islanders—not a party committee, donor or national political campaign.

Principles put into action
